Thames Design & Build Ltd was established by Rob Allison in 2011.
Rob has worked in construction for over 15 years, starting as an apprentice, training as a carpenter (City & Guilds), and subsequently gaining a degree in Construction Project Management from Northumbria University, where he also studied Architectural Design and Technology.
Rob’s vision is to use his blend of architectural and building expertise to deliver a quality service tailored to meet the needs of anybody who wants to extend or improve their home.
We are based in Thames Ditton, and our projects span SW London, Surrey, and the Thames Valley.
Traditionally the construction industry has tended to separate the design and build roles, appointing an architect for the former and a building contractor for the latter. We believe that while this split will often make sense for large commercial contracts, it is much less well suited to smaller residential projects, and can lead to inefficiencies and increased costs.
Our approach is to offer both elements – architectural and building services – thereby using our experience of each discipline to inform the other. In other words, our designers understand the construction requirements, and our construction professionals understand the design process, and there is no scope for miscommunication or incompatibility.
Having described our core philosophy thus, we recognise that there are many reasons why a client may seek just one or more components of our service, and we are here to serve our clients, not to dictate to them! So whether your requirement is for design, drawings, Planning Permission, Building Regulations approval, or construction, we believe that we can deliver a top quality service at a fair price.

A construction project may or may not require Planning Permission; it will almost certainly require Building Regulations approval. We will explain to you the requirements of your project, and will guide you through all the applicable regulations and approval processes. We will produce all the relevant drawings and structural calculations.
We can prepare for you a Schedule of Works, and we will be happy to give you a fixed price for your build. All of our tradesmen and sub-contractors are appropriately qualified and registered, and all gas and electrical work will be fully certificated.
